Meet Mackenzie
Where are you from?
South West London
What are your favourite things to do online?
My favourite thing to do in my spare time is using my skills in Python, Javascript, HTML, and CSS and apply those to small and engaging mini projects to either make my day-to-day tasks more efficient or just fun computer games to show my friends and family.
Why did you apply to join the Childnet Youth Advisory Board?
My passion for leveraging technology for social and environmental sustainability aligns perfectly with Childnet’s goals. I believe that my technical skills and commitment to ensuring the internet is a safe space for everyone made applying for the Childnet Youth Advisory Board an easy and compelling decision.
If you could change one thing about the internet, what would it be and why?
I would ensure that there are up-to-date regulations that are able to enforce the ethical use of technology, especially emerging technology. For instance, metaverse’s immersive nature, coupled with blockchain’s decentralized and transparent characteristics, introduces complex challenges related to data privacy, and digital identity. Currently, without regulations tailored to address the nuances of blockchain applications in the metaverse, there is a heightened concern for exploitation and misuse targeting vulnerable demographics. Being able to change this part of the internet would make it a more secure and accountable digital environment for children and young people in the UK.
What 5 words would you use to describe yourself?
