Updated Know IT All for parents now available

13 October 2008

Childnet International is delighted to announce that the Know IT All for parents CDRom is available again – all 1 million copies of the earlier version were ordered and distributed in less than 6 months – and it has been updated to include fresh content on new and significant issues including social networking, cyberbullying and reporting. The summary of this award winning resource is now available in 9 languages with the inclusion of Welsh in this version in addition to new British Sign Language content for children.

In response to that high demand, Childnet, with support from Becta have produced 500,000 copies of this new version of the CDRom and these are free to order from today.

The Byron review earlier this year highlighted the significance of parents’ lack of confidence and their feeling of being ill-equipped to help their children stay safe online’ and this updated resource will continue the work of previous versions of Know IT All in equipping parents to help their children stay safe online.

Will Gardner, Deputy CEO of Childnet said:

“Parents role in helping children to stay safe online is crucial, as recognised by Tanya Byron in her report. The Know IT All for parents CDRom is such a useful resource for parents who are wanting to find out more -not just about the potential risks of technology, but the good stuff too, what the benefits of the internet are for their children but also for themselves. Parents can go at their own speed through this resource, and there are sections to help discussions between parents and children within it. We have seen phenomenal demand for this information with 1 million copies ordered in half a year, we are delighted to have been able to produce more”.

Charlotte Aynsley from Head of Safeguarding, Becta, said:

“We are delighted to have been able to partner with Childnet to get this ground-breaking and award-winning resource out to parents and carers. As technology becomes more and more integral into children’s social and educational lives, we need to do what we can to help them get the most out of it, and be supported by those closest to them while they do so. Parents and carers play a key role here, and this CDRom is so accessible and comprehensive, there will be something here for every parent. It really is an essential resource for any parent who wants to ensure their child is a ‘next generation learner”.
