Childnet runner storms London Marathon
Childnet was supported in the London Marathon by London secondary school teacher Andy Marlow, who ran a very swift time in only his 3rd marathon!
Film competition 2012
Positive and inspiring use of the internet is at the heart of the Childnet Film Challenge 2012. Childnet is inviting all schools and youth organisations in the UK to enter our challenge. Two separate projects are in place for primary and secondary aged children. The theme will be revealed to entrants on Monday 16th April 2012.

Childnet to help judge Trend Micro Film Contest
Will Gardner has joined the judging panel for Trend Micro ‘What’s Your Story?’ film contest for the second year running. The 2012 ‘What’s your Story?’ competition, invites schools, families, and individuals over seven years old in the UK, to create and submit a short video, song, story, poem or drawing to share their advice to other young people about ‘How to be Web Safe’.
Childnet's Upper Secondary Toolkit is now live!
The Upper Secondary Toolkit has been created by Childnet as part of the UKSIC for pupils in Key Stage 4 and above. Whilst there has been a wealth of resources about e- safety and online conduct for pupils at Key Stage 2 and 3, there are however far fewer resources for pupils at Key Stage 4 and 5. The toolkit contains two different resources the Advanced Project and the ‘Picture This’ our drama activity, these activities have been matched to the skills and interests of young people aged 14-19.
Summary of Safer Internet Day 2012 Connecting Generations Event
To bring the Safer Internet Day Connecting Generations theme to life, the UK Safer Internet Centre hosted a multi-generational, multi-stakeholder event, bringing together children, young people, their parents and grandparents, plus representatives from industry, government, law enforcement, academia, charities and parenting groups.
See your art in cinemas with the CBBFC Centenary Competition
The BBFC is 100 this year. They are the organisation that gives age ratings to films, DVDs and some films online. You see their black card in the cinema when you go to see a movie, or their white card online when you download one. To celebrate the centenary the BBFC is inviting kids to redesign their Black Card. The winning entry will have their design made in to real black card to be shown in cinemas. You can also win other cool prizes including the chance to train to be a BBFC examiner for a day with your class and rate movies and trailers yourself.
Get expert e-safety advice
The South West Grid for Learning's Esafety Live Briefings will cover questions including: How can your online reputation damage your career? How can you safely use Facebook to engage with your children? The events this year include 12 workshop sessions on a wide range of topics on games-based learning, bullying, parental engagement and support as well as resources to use in the classroom. The sessions will deliver useful, current advice and information regarding the safe and proactive use of online technologies in learning and education.
Young people look to their parents for internet safety support
Families all around the UK will be encouraged to discover the digital world together today, as activities get underway to mark Safer Internet Day, 2012. It's the 9th edition of the annual global event and this year's theme – Connecting Generations – highlights the benefits of sharing internet safety know-how at home.
