Lights, camera… the Childnet Film Competition 2023 draws closer

23 February 2023

Capture young people’s imagination and creativity through the lens of online safety!

Were your learners engaged with Safer Internet Day? Then they may also find the Childnet Film Competition a brilliant and exciting online safety activity to get involved in.

The annual competition puts not only the microphone but also the camera in the hands of young people, enabling them to talk about their experiences online through the art of filmography or storyboarding.

Not only is the competition unique and exciting for young people to get involved in, but it also enriches their skills in digital media, drama, art… the list goes on!

It will help them to become creative online safety pioneers of their generation, and hopefully inspire others in their school and across the UK to talk about their own experiences online.

What’s the theme for Childnet Film Competition 2023?

We can officially reveal that the theme for Childnet Film Competition of 2023 is:

Time to talk! How can people support each other online?

We’re reflecting the Safer Internet Day theme of sharing online experiences, with a focus on supporting one another online; we’re very excited to see what the talent young people across the UK have got in store for the competition with this theme!

According to the official Safer Internet Day 2023 research, 77% of 8 to 17 year olds feel they could talk to friends if worried about something online.

A further 58% of 8 to 17 year olds feel they can help their friends know more about being safe online.

This shows that not only do young people already support each other online, but also feel that they can encourage their friends and peers to know more about it. The film competition will be a fantastic way to showcase this!

The competition opens for entries next Tuesday 28th March

What now?

The competition opens for entries next Tuesday 28th February, so look out for further information regarding the theme, categories, judges, and prizes.

In the meantime, we need you to spread the word in classrooms and hallways, so that as many young people get involved in the competition as possible!
