Get your Digiduck costumes ready!

4 March 2015

Thursday 5 March is World Book Day and the perfect opportunity to read, or re-read, our fabulous children’s book Digiduck’s Big Decision.

When Digiduck receives a photo online, he is faced with a tricky choice… to send the picture on to his friends and make them laugh, or to do something different. With a little help from Wise_Owl, Digiduck is fortunate enough to see the possible consequences of his actions, before he makes his decision. Digiduck is already a good friend to others (offline) but he learns the importance of considering people’s feelings online too, and what friendship means today in a world where children and technology are so intertwined.

So what can you do to celebrate World Book Day? Schools often have dressing up days where you come to school as your favourite character. Who better to dress as than Digiduck or one of his pals? We’d love to see your pictures if you do!

Printed copies of Digiduck’s Big Decision are available in (new) A4 size to order from our online shop and contain questions for discussion with children, plus advice for teachers, parents and carers at the end. .

Working in partnership with Internet Matters and Socially Bright, the story is also now available as an incredible free app for tablets, with characters voiced by Janet Ellis and Sophie Ellis Bextor. It is available for both IOS and Android devices.

Alternatively you can read our online ebook, or download the PDF version if you want to print your own copy. If you speak another language, Digiduck has been made available in Spanish and Norwegian too!

If you have organised any Digiduck related sessions or activities then please do tweet us your pictures, or let us know what you’ve been getting up by interacting with our Facebook page. It always amazes us to see what people have been doing and how the resource has helped to inspire pupils.

Enjoy your World Book Day celebrations… Quack quack!
