The Childnet Film Competition is back for all UK schools and youth groups to enjoy. Here’s why you should enter, including the full list of prizes for winners and runners-up!
The 13th annual competition is officially open for entrants, who have until Wednesday 8th June to submit their films or storyboards.
Following the success of this year’s Safer Internet Day on February 8th, we are asking young people to create a short film or storyboard exploring the theme of: All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online.
However, Film Competition participants are invited to draw upon any part of this year’s theme. Whilst they could focus on ‘games’, they can also look at ‘respect and relationships’ online or find a way to incorporate both!
Why enter?
The Childnet Film Competition is a fantastic way to engage young people’s creativity in an exciting extracurricular activity. Many young people may want experience in filmmaking for their future careers or to bolster their CVs and portfolios.
The competition also provides an opportunity for children and young people to gain filming and editing skills – and could springboard into future career opportunities.
We have multiple categories to ensure that we are reaching as many young people as possible:
- Primary: for 7-11 year olds
- Secondary: for 11-18 year olds
- Storyboard: for those who prefer to draw – there will be winners for each age group (7-11 and 11-18)
- Solo: for 16-18 year olds wishing to enter a film as an individual
Prizes
Whilst winning a prestigious national competition is a proud achievement for any young person, there are also prizes on offer for the winners and runners-up in each category.
In addition, those who finish in the top three in the Primary and Secondary categories as well as the winner of the Solo category will all receive trophies!
Primary and Secondary categories
All films that reach the final round of voting will be officially classified by the BBFC, which sets age ratings and certifications for films in the UK. This means that the finalists’ films could be legally screened in cinemas, and is a proud achievement for any aspiring filmmaker!
All Primary and Secondary prizes are awarded to schools or youth groups to help enrich their film department and create opportunities for more young people.
Individuals in winning groups will win a certificate and exciting goody bag, filled with gifts from big film brands and corporations.
Prizes include:
- Camera provided to all six finalists’ schools or youth groups
- 1st place receives a DSLR camera and premium film kit, including a camera case, clapperboard, tripod, 64GB memory card
- 2nd place wins a DSLR camera, camera case, 64GB memory card and clapperboard
- 3rd place wins a DSLR camera, camera case and 32GB memory card
Storyboard category
- The individual winners of each age group (7-11s and 11-18s) will receive an A3 graphics sketchbook and professional graphics art pen.
Solo category
- The winner will receive a handheld smartphone gimbal and other great prizes.
