Triumph globally and soar with the Childnet Film Competition: International

15 March 2023

The Academy Awards swept up the headlines on newspapers and social media globally.

Filmmaking is one of the most celebrated and prominent professions and art, and not to mention one of the most enticing.

We organise a film competition for all UK schools and youth groups annually; but did you know that we run an international version too?

Now in its third year, we’ve had entries submitted all over the world, including Moldova, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Turkey, India, Ireland, Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates, to name a few!

Childnet International are keen for as many schools around the world to take the director’s seat for their chance to win the competition.

Children and young people have the opportunity to flex their creativity and submit a two-minute film around this year’s online safety theme:

Who can enter the International Film Competition?

Childnet Film Competition: International is for young people aged 7-18 who attend schools outside of the UK. There are two categories:

  • Ages 7–11
  • Ages 11–18

One winning film will be selected from each age group and will win £500 to spend on a spectacular filmmaking prize.

Whether filmed using a mobile phone, camcorder or animation, you’re in with a chance to win. We’re always looking for creative and unique approaches to the theme – how will your school stand out?

Planning the competition in your school

Head here for the simple and easy details on how to go about creating and submitting your film.

The competition closes on the 21st June, with winners announced online on the 19th July. The next generation of talented filmmakers are in your schools – why not watch last year’s entries together in assembly or class and inspire this year’s entrants?

Looking for inspiration? We have a planning sheet to help your learners get started with the theme, including some handy pointers:

  • What makes going online fun?
  • Why is it important to be kind and respectful online?
  • What could we do to support each other online?

Any further questions? We’d love to hear from you! Email us at international@childnet.com

Please note – all entries must be in English Language and reflect a positive message.

Childnet Film Competition: International is part funded by the Motion Picture Association.
