E-safety in the computing curriculum

1 September 2014

Childnet have launched a guide for teachers that will help support the teaching of e-safety as outlined in the new Computing curriculum.

Supported by Yahoo Safely, the Childnet guide aims to highlight the key learning aims related to e-safety in the computing cirriculum so as to help teachers cover this key new component.

As CEO of Childnet, Will Gardner, explained:

“Although most of the headlines surrounding the new Computing Curriculum are around Coding, the teaching of e-safety is a clear and key requirement of new Computing Curriculum from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4. We fully support the inclusion of e-safety in the curriculum and we are delighted, with support from Yahoo!, to be able to support this teaching of e-safety.”

To ensure that pupils have access to a broad and balanced e-safety education at each key stage the resource is made up of 4 separate guides for Key Stages 1 to 4. It is intended as a practical guide to understanding the key learning aims of the computing curriculum in relation to e-safety and digital literacy, and to highlight and signpost to educational resources and materials that can be used to meet those aims.

The resources are free to view as an online Prezi or can be downloaded as a PDF of the slides. Visit https://www.childnet.com/resources/esafety-and-computing for more information.
