Staff from Childnet today travelled to Malta to address a packed audience of 200 teachers at a day long E-Safety conference, promoting a positive message on the Whole-School Community approach to helping children and young people stay safe online.
Childnet’s comprehensive range of resources developed in the UK, including an internet safety kit for students, safer internet resources for teachers, and a train the trainers programme were offered to the 200 Maltese teachers who attended the conference.
Ellen Coen, Childnet’s Schools Manager who travelled to Malta to address delegates said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity to share Childnet’s resources with such a receptive audience. We were delighted to work with Maltese educators to help ensure the continued instruction of their children in how to use the Internet safely and responsibly.”
Véronique De Gabrille Ferrante, a delegate at the conference, praised the day saying …
“I had no idea where to start tackling online safety issues before this presentation,”
… before clarifying how useful she had found the conference and expressing her gratitude for the resources that were given to delegates.
Coinciding with the conference, Childnet also signed an important agreement with the Maltese Government to develop the next stage of the E-safety programme which is being developed by the Ministry of ITT and Childnet.
Building on a four year partnership with the Ministry and the translation of Childnet’s Kidsmart Internet safety education programme into Maltese, a second agreement between the government of Malta and Childnet International was signed, thereby providing the government with a number of Internet safety resources to be used to distribute to parents, schools and children.
Speaking to the press Minister Austin Gat confirmed that;
“The creation of a safe internet environment is one of our main objectives. To attain this we need to educate and raise awareness amongst parents, teachers and children.”
Signing the document alongside Minister Gat, Stephen Carrick-Davies, Childnet’s CEO, commended the Maltese Government for leading the way in the creating a safe environment and expressed Childnet’s pleasure in assisting the Maltese Government.
