Last night we attended the awards ceremony of the Digital Leaders 100, where our Childnet Digital Leaders Programme was recognised for its innovative digital approach that empowers young people to take the lead in promoting the safe and positive use of technology in their school.
We were incredibly honoured to be shortlisted as Charity Digital Leader of the Year for our Childnet Digital Leaders Programme, alongside the overall category winners Action for Children and many other pioneering organisations and people who are using digital technology to transform the world.
At Childnet we are passionate about promoting the incredible opportunities offered by technology and the role it can play in improving young people’s lives, and we are always exploring how we can use digital technology to help us in our mission to make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people.
Our Childnet Digital Leaders Programme is a great example of how we do that.
Launching in September 2015 and delivered as part of our work as the UK Safer Internet Centre, our innovative peer-to-peer programme empowers young people to promote the safe and positive use of technology in their school. So far 125 schools have joined the programme and over a thousand Digital Leaders are active on our online platform, earning points and badges as they undergo training and contribute to community discussions. Over 300 Digital Leaders have completed their training and are now delivering activities in their school, such as e-safety workshops and campaigns.
As the first year of the project comes to an end, we are excited to look ahead to next year where we will continue to grow the programme for secondary schools and launch a primary schools programme.
