Childnet Digital Leaders Programme now open to all UK schools

1 September 2016

Schools are invited to register now to join our innovative peer-to-peer education programme – now open to all UK primary and secondary schools.

The Childnet Digital Leaders Programme aims to empower children and young people to champion digital citizenship and digital creativity within their schools and to educate their peers, parents and teachers about staying safe online.

The programme is delivered by Childnet as part of its work as one of the three charities in the UK Safer Internet Centre.

Programme now extended to primary schools

We’re delighted to announce that the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme has now opened to primary schools, following a successful first year of the secondary schools programme.

Since the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme started in secondary schools last year over a thousand young people have undertaken their training to be effective e-safety educators. They have then gone on to deliver activities in their schools to educate their peers about online safety.

Power of community

The Childnet Digital Leaders Programme offers young people access to an exciting online community. Here they access training and support from Childnet’s expert team, record achievements, earn badges, and collaborate and share inspiration with schools across the UK.

The launch of the programme for primary schools comes with the development of a new tailored platform, separate to that of the secondary schools, which was piloted in 13 primary schools across the UK.

This approach has been welcomed by the primary schools involved in the pilot. As Carolyn Ellis-Gage from Norwich Road Academy said:

“My pupils are really enthusiastic about the training and love working through and gaining the badges!”

Meanwhile, the feedback from students involved in the secondary schools programme has been overwhelmingly positive:

“This type of training is good as it is creative and makes us think” – 15-year-old boy, Durham
“I feel that this was a perfect way to train because it was very interactive” – 13-year-old girl, London
“I feel really inspired now and want to do something myself in my community!” – 16-year-old girl, Lincolnshire

Schools are now invited to register for the academic year 2016/17.
