Staff esafety INSET presentation

3 September 2013

Back to School!

It’s September which can only mean one thing. It’s back to the classroom for teachers and pupils alike. Children and young people are likely to have used plenty of technology over the summer holidays, and so now is a really great time to discuss internet experiences, and esafety issues, with your pupils. Ofsted recognises that esafety is a whole community issue and there are real advantages in running internet safety staff training sessions as soon as possible, so that all staff members throughout the school feel confident to provide esafety advice and information to the children in their care.

This role traditionally falls to the esafety lead in your school, organisation or childcare setting, or your designated child protection officer. To make the process of planning and running an INSET session as straightforward as possible, Childnet has now developed a brand new, free to use, esafety INSET presentation. Available within the ‘Teachers and Professionals’ area of the Childnet website, the INSET comes with a Prezi that is embedded and just needs to be played and paused whenever necessary, a script / delivery instructions to be downloaded and read in advance to explain the finer details of each slide, and all the supporting resources that are mentioned throughout the presentation. The INSET takes about an hour, however the content and timings are flexible and the discussion topics can be influenced by the staff members present and pertinent issues that may have recently arisen. By carefully exploring the ‘Hot Topics’ section for Teachers and Professionals in advance, the facilitator will be able to answer questions that arise when online issues are discussed, and show staff members where they can find further detailed information. We hope that you find the INSET to be a valuable addition to our provision for staff and welcome your email feedback ([email protected]), or blog comments, if you have used the resource.
