The UK Safer Internet Centre team were celebrating last night as Safer Internet Day 2014 was named runner up in the ‘Making the Internet a Safer Place’ category of the Nominet Internet Awards.
Representatives from the 3 UK Safer Internet Centre partners, the South West Grid for Learning, Childnet and the IWF, attended the awards at the London Film Museum.
To get the low down on what happened at the awards we caught up with Kathryn Tremlett from the SWGfL.

The Nominet Internet Awards (or the Internet Oscars as we like to call them) were held last night at the very classy London Film Museum. It just so happened that the museum was featuring a James Bond exhibition with many of the iconic Aston Martin’s that featured in the films on show. Firstly our drinks reception was accompanied by a lovely Jazz trio playing many of the memorable Bond themes amongst other popular jazz classics such as ‘Take Five’ by the late Dave Brubeck. The 007 theme continued throughout the awards ceremony with Dry Martini’s, shaken, not stirred (of course) circulating a plenty and opportunities to pose for your very own Bond photo shoot! In case you were wondering, this was more Bond himself rather than ‘Bond Girls’ (no bikinis in sight!)
So down to the important stuff… The UK Safer Internet Centre were thrilled to have been shortlisted in the ‘Making the Internet a Safer Place’ category for Safer Internet Day 2014 and we’re ecstatic to announce that… (drum roll please)…
We were the runners up!
What a fantastic achievement and credit to all who got involved in this year’s #SID2014. This achievement is as much yours as it is ours and we are enormously proud to be helping create a better internet together with you. Yes, we didn’t win but now to tell you who did… (2nd drum roll please)…
That would be the eCadets, a fantastic scheme working to empower school pupils to be the next generation of online safety school leaders. A well-deserved win and our colleagues at the South West Grid for Learning are looking forward to collaborating with them through their Welsh e-Safety project work.
