Safer Internet Day 2021 celebrates the amazing range of information and opportunities online, and its potential to inform, connect and inspire, whilst also looking at how young people can separate fact from fiction.

Without the fantastic work of Safer Internet Day supporters we wouldn’t be able to reach and inspire so many young people, and promote online safety to them.

Here are just some of the supporters who have already registered, and their messages ahead of Safer Internet Day 2021…

BBC

Patricia Hidalgo Reina, Director of BBC Children’s & Education

“In a year where children have spent more time online than ever before, this year’s theme of ‘an internet we trust and reliability online’ is sending out a very timely message, and we are proud to be a part of Safer Internet Day 2021.”

NSPCC

Peter Wanless, Chief Executive

“We know that children and young people need the help of adults to keep them safe online and to learn who and what they can trust online. Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to remind families and adults working with children of the importance of having this dialogue and coming together to ensure children can enjoy being online safely.”

National Police Chiefs’ Council

Simon Bailey, Chief Constable & Lead for Child Protection

“As children spend more time online for both learning and fun it is even more vital that they are educated and empowered to stay safe. There are simple steps we can all take to make the web a better place for our children and Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity to highlight those.”

Mencap

Abdul Hameed, who has a learning disability and a visual impairment, Co-Trainer (LD and Sport)

“More people with a learning disability are using the internet to connect with family and friends during this time, but the internet is not always a positive experience. Mencap can help with that and make people feel safer through our new programme. Let’s Get Digital helps people with a learning disability access technology and provide digital skills training to make the internet a safe place.”

NCA

Lynne Owens, Director General

“On this year’s Safer Internet Day, I would encourage all professionals working for and with children and young people to get involved in promoting and engaging with the day, by taking full advantage of the resources, films and quiz the UK Safer Internet Centre have put together. Together we can create a better internet.”

TikTok

Alexandra Evans, Head of Child Safety Public Policy, Europe

“We’re proud to support Childnet’s online safety resources, ensuring that children, teachers and parents have access to invaluable information, tips and advice for how to keep safe online. Safer Internet Day is an important opportunity to reflect on the steps we’ve taken over the last 12 months to keep our community – especially our younger users – safe.”

NAHT

Paul Whiteman, General Secretary

“Whilst schools can offer guidance to pupils about staying safe online during lessons like PSHE, social media and technology, companies must also exercise a duty of care to make sure their services are safe. Safer Internet Day is a great way to make sure young people are ‘switched on’ about the risks and benefits of going online.”
