techUK annual dinner 2016 raises funds for Childnet

1 August 2016

On 6th July the techUK annual dinner brought together over 430 people from across the UK tech industry, government and civil service.

With speeches from Lord Bridges, Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Office, and broadcaster Andrew Neil, the event showcased the UK’s digital technology sector.

As long term supporters of Childnet, techUK held a raffle at the event raising almost £3,000 to support Childnet’s work helping to make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people.

With a membership of over 900 tech companies, who collectively employ more than 800,000 people (about half of all tech sector jobs in the UK), ensuring that children’s needs are kept at the heart of the UK’s thriving tech sector is hugely important to techUK.

Julian David, CEO of techUK, said:

“Children are key users of digital technology and it is essential that the UK tech sector listens to their voices and places their needs at the heart of everything we do. Childnet is a fantastic organisation that does a huge amount to support children and young people to make the most of the opportunities offered by technology, by doing so safely and responsibly. We are both proud and delighted to support their work.”

Will Gardner, CEO of Childnet said:

“techUK have been fantastic supporters of Childnet for several years and their support is important in enabling us to grow our impact year on year, from coordinating Safer Internet Day which reached 40% of UK children this year to creating innovative resources for schools and families. At Childnet we believe that a better internet involves every key stakeholder playing their part to promote children’s rights and protect children online, and the tech sector plays an essential role in this ongoing collaborative effort. Partners like techUK are crucial in promoting this approach and in supporting our work in schools and communities across the UK.”
