Comedian Reginald D Hunter headlines at Home Office fundraiser for Childnet!

10 November 2016

On Wednesday 9th November, a group of Home Office Civil Service Fast Streamers entitled “The Fundamentals” put on a fantastic night of comedy with Reginald D Hunter headlining.

Taking place at the Civil Service Club in central London, over 80 people were entertained by the five comedians who took to the stage. The night itself raised around £900 which will go towards supporting our work empowering young people, their teachers and parents and carers to have a safe and positive time online. We asked Heather Spain, one of the organisers of the night, more about The Fundamentals and why they chose Childnet:

Who are the Fundamentals?

Our team is made up of people on the Civil Service Fast Stream based in departments across Government and in London, Newcastle, Andover and Leeds. The Civil Service sets all Fast Streamers a corporate challenge called “The Fund” to raise money for a charity of their choice. Many Fast Streamers join the Civil Service to make a real difference and this challenge enables them to do so whilst also building skills and broadening experiences valued by the Civil Service.

Why did you choose Childnet?

We want the internet to be a great and safe place for children. We recognise the risks the internet can pose and my work in the WePROTECT Global Alliance Secretariat has made me all too aware of how criminals with a sexual interest in children can leverage technology and join forces with other offenders online to abuse and exploit children on a mass scale. We think that the work and resources of Childnet is critically important to ensure that children and young people are equipped with the skills and knowledge to use the internet in a safe manner.

If you’d like to support Fundamentals in raising money for Childnet then you can do so by visiting their JustGiving page.
