UKCCIS Evidence Group publish Research Highlight number 98

21 October 2016

A new Research Highlight has been published by the Evidence Group of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety.

The Evidence Group provides the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) with helpful summaries of relevant and new research and includes representatives from NGO’s, academia and the Police.

The Series aims to keep UKCCIS, and the wider public up to date with current research.

We’re pleased to share that the Evidence Group have published a new Research Highlight, which is the 98th summary in the series.

This Research Highlight aimed to evaluate the operations of internet safety helplines, looking at the effectiveness of the helplines and the emerging issues that they face.

One of the key things this study highlights is that between October and December 2015 a total of 9,274 people contacted the helplines with online issues, with 12-18 year olds accounting for almost half of all calls.

This research shows which issues the helplines believe will be of concern in the future. The vast majority of helplines believe that bullying, cyberbullying and online hate speech will continue to be major concerns for internet safety.
