Opportunity for Primary Educators to develop the new Internet Matters app

24 May 2017

Having discussions with children is a key part of helping them to stay safe online, both in and out of the classroom. Internet Matters offer a free tablet app for parents to help have these discussions and are now looking to develop an app to support educators discuss online safety with children.

The Internet Matters app has been developed to target parents/carers with children aged 8-11 to help them have conversations about staying safe while online. The app is an interactive game where parents and children work together to answer multiple choice questions on a number of topics e.g. cyberbullying, privacy & identity, inappropriate content. It is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

A number of teachers have expressed an interest in developing the app into a classroom resource where children could work in pairs and teachers could lead a lesson around the subject. We are working with Internet Matters to explore how this might be done and we would really welcome thoughts and input from primary educators on what would be most effective for a primary classroom environment.

To help gather ideas and suggestions, Internet Matters have created a short online questionnaire on how the app could be adapted for the classroom and which topics you feel the app should cover.

So far, the most popular topics that primary educators would like to see featured in the app are chatting/messaging and making friends online. You may have other topics in mind that the app could cover to help you discuss online safety with children so don’t miss this chance to express your views and ideas to help shape the development of the app.

As a thank you for your valuable time and input, you will be entered into a prize draw to win an Amazon Fire tablet for your school!

So to get involved and have your say, please complete this short questionnaire to be in with a chance of winning a tablet for your school.
