Our work as part of the UK Safer Internet Centre

5 November 2015

Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, and that’s why we seek to work with all sectors as a catalyst for positive change.

We are particularly proud of our work as part of the UK Safer Internet Centre, alongside the South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation.

Together we deliver a wide range of activities to promote the safe and responsible use of technology. Our role, together with the SWGfL, is to fulfil the role of the Awareness Centre. This involves developing new educational and awareness raising resources for children, parents and carers and teachers. It also involves coordinating Safer Internet Day in the UK.

In 2011 the UK Safer Internet Centre coordinated the first Safer Internet Day in the UK. The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet. Last year over 850 organisations joined together to support Safer Internet Day, helping to reach a quarter of young people in the UK and showing what can be achieved by working together.

Safer Internet Day 2016 will take place on the 9th February with the theme Play your part for a better internet!

Reflections on a year of education visits

Every year, Childnet speaks to thousands of young people in schools and settings across the country (and sometimes in other countries too)! These visits are the foundation of everything we do at Childnet, where we aim to make the internet a great and safe place for all children and young people.
