Talk Straight & Schools Broadband are running the Leeds 10K for Childnet

2 July 2014

Talk Straight & Schools Broadband have put together a team of runners to take part in the Leeds 10K to raise money for Childnet. We caught up with Deborah at Talk Straight to find out whose taking part in the challenge, how the training is going and what inspired them to fundraise for Childnet.

How many people in your organisation will be running in the Leeds 10K?

We have 30 people in the company and an incredible 10 of us will be running, so that’s a third of us! Some of us, like David (our director) are experienced runners, but some of us have never done any running before, so training has been really important! We have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s in our team, so we’re a real mix of ages and abilities. Everyone’s been really enthusiastic and running together has meant that we can improve our fitness levels at the same time as raising money for an really important cause.

How is the training going?

Many of the locals might have seen us training out and about in the park in Ilkley (where our office is based) in our team t-shirts. We usually have a warm up session with some stretches organised by Bob, our Sales Director and then run around 5K if we can make it!

It’s great to run as a group as the encouragement of our faster runners keeps us going – in fact we’re all getting quite competitive now! Many of us are also training at home and we’ve linked up our profiles on mapmyrun so we can view each other’s times and distances!

Why did Talk Straight & Schools Broadband decide to raise funds for Childnet?

As a company that provides broadband and web filtering to schools, it was natural for us to want to support a charity that helps keep children safe on the internet.

Childnet provides an invaluable service in educating both professionals and children about the dangers that can exist online. We feel that education is the key to ensuring that the young people of today are able to make informed judgements and become responsible digital citizens in the future.

How can people support you?

Our JustGiving page is now up and running at https://www.justgiving.com/SchoolsBroadband/ and of course, we’d be very grateful for any sponsorship. Company Directors Tim and David have also agreed to match our sponsorship if we reach our target of £500. If you’re out and about in Leeds on Sunday 20th July we’d also love to see you come and cheer us on. More information about the run can be found at http://www.runforall.com/10k/leeds/
