Why is E-safety important?

The Know IT All for Teachers DVD is available free of charge to teachers through the Childnet website. It contains a short film called Jenny’s Story which illustrates one of the greatest dangers to children when using the internet: that of online grooming which could lead to physical harm. The DVD is accompanied by an e-safety leaflet which covers the full range of issues that affect children regarding content, contact and commercialism that they might encounter when online or using mobile phones. About Jenny’s Story

The Know IT All for Teachers DVD contains the film Jenny’s Story. Jenny's Story is a short film based on a true story of Jenny, a teenager who chats to a stranger on the Internet. It shows how, through chatting online, Jenny reveals personal information which results in her being contacted in real life and ultimately hurt.

Jenny's Story illustrates one of the greatest dangers to children when using the internet: that of online grooming which could lead to physical harm. This is defined by the Home Office as:

"A course of conduct enacted by a suspected paedophile, which would give a reasonable person cause for concern that any meeting with a child arising from the conduct would be for unlawful purposes."
